CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO GET MORE POLICE OFFICERS ON THE STREETS OF GILLINGHAM AND RAINHAM

Rehman Chishti Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Gillingham and Rainham, launched a campaign to get more police officers on the streets of Gillingham. Rehman said “my thanks goes to the thousands of people who have signed my petition, calling for more police officers, and a firmer criminal justice system.  Law and Order community safety is a key issue for me.

Please support our campaign by signing our petition online.

CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO GET MORE DOCTORS AND NURSES FOR OUR HOSPITAL AND LESS BUREACURACY

Rehman Chishti again launched a campaign to get more doctors and nurses in our hospitals, and less unwanted paper pushing and government targets, which have lead to hospitals being treated as hostels, in churning patients out quickly with out providing good quality care.  Rehman again would like to thank the thousands of you who have signed his petition calling for more doctors and nurses.  Rehman added the National Heath Service is our number one priority.

CAMPAIGN WON, MEDWAY COUNCIL TURNS DOWN DOCK CHEMICAL STORAGE  APPLICATION

Rehman Chishti thanks all of you in supporting him, in his campaign, to get Medway Council to turn down the application by ance-rmittal, to store extra ammonium nitrate at Chatham Docks.  Rehman said this was a joint effort with all of you, in getting petitions signed letters handed out at Street stalls and outside schools.   Local residents safety always comes first, that’s why if elected I will bring a private members bill which states no amounts if dangerous chemicals should be stored in residential areas.

CAMPAIGN WON, NEW ARRIVIA BUS TO REPLACE THE CLOSED NEW VENTURE 120 AND 121 INTO RAINHAM WAKELEY ROAD AREA, TO BE FUNDED BY MEDWAY COUNCIL

Again I was delighted to have campaigned on this issue along with Cllr Vaughn Hewett Member for Rainham North, in getting Medway Council to fund a replaced bus service, as a result of New Venture closing their service due in part to high fuel costs, under this government.

Both Cllr Hewett and I felt passionately about fighting for a replacement bus service as we felt it is important that local residents are able to access public transport in their day to day activities. Once again we thank you all the residents in supporting us in this campaign.

SAVE CAPSTONE VALLEY

I along with the ward members for Hempstead and Wigmore, Cllr’s Rodney Chambers and Diane Chambers, have continued to object to any proposals to build on Capstone Valley.  Once again we thank you for signing petitions and supporting us in this campaign, we feel passionately about preserving our green spaces, and will fight to keep them, against any government plans to impose development on them.

CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO CUT TRAIN FARES  & OPPOSES  GOVERNMENT  PLANS TO CUT TRAINS IN TO LONDON

Cllr Rehman Chishti earlier this year launched a campaign to get train companies to reduce train fares, which had risen by some 10%.

Here n Gillingham and Rainham about 30% of the residents commute to London, as I do too. I was appalled at the rise in train fares when the quality of service was pretty poor and trains were over crowded, and untidy. Overcrowding should be resolved by improved services and not rationing by price.

Further, Cllr Chishti was extremely concerned that from 2009 the Labour Government, which has offered the rail franchise for this area to a different provider, will be reducing the number of fast services from Gillingham and Rainham to London Victoria.

The Government had planned to cut the services to Cannon Street, however due to the pressure from your Conservative Council, the new network provider has been forced to continue the service.

Cllr Chishti added, “This Government has shown blatant disregard to the needs of the people of Gillingham and Rainham, by failing to provide good quality affordable public transport, even though excellent public transport has an important part to play in mitigating the effects of global warming.

CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO SAVE STATION ROAD POST OFFICE AND BYRON ROAD POST OFFICE

Rehman Chishti and Local Councillors David Carr and Vaughn Hewett launched a campaign to keep station Road Post Office and Byron Road Post Office Open.

Unfortunatly this Labobour Government and your local Labour M.P voted to close these post offices in Parliament.

We would like to thank all of you who supported our campaign to keep these vital post offices open, as we belive it is vital for local residents to be able to access local post offices in their daily activity.

We thank all of you who signed our petitions and wrote letters in support of this campaign.

We will continue to fight to bring back local post offices to local residents.

Campaign launched to curtail the erection of mobile phone masts in residential areas

Rehman Chishti, recently selected prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Gillingham & Rainham declared that when he is elected he will bring a private members bill in Parliament seeking to curtail the erection of mobile phone masts in residential areas.

Having spoken to many residents, Rehman is well aware of the concerns that people have about the possible health risks coming from mobile phone masts. Recently he has campaigned against yet another mast on the camping shop on the A2 at Watling Street - and just a short while ago the one in Woodside at Wigmore which gave rise to massive local protest. He feels that it is important to put health issues before the phone companies desires to make money.

The Council has in many cases listened to the understandable concerns of residents, and erred on the side of caution.  However, all too often these local decisions which are taken by locally elected Councillors are over turned and given permission by Government appointed Inspector.

Rehman says, “We all know that mobile phones are widely used but caution has to be exercised when thinking about the location of mast in tight residential areas.  Therefore, I pledge to bring a private members bill to give greater control to local councils on where these masts are located.”
