Rehman has won his campaign to toughen sentences for disqualified driving.
The Government has announced that it will increase the sentence for motorists who cause death whilst disqualified from driving, in line with Rehman's proposals.
Rehman introduced two Bills in Parliament to strengthen the law for motorists who drive whilst disqualified.
His ‘Causing Death by Driving Whilst Disqualified Bill’would increase the maximum sentence for motorists who kill someone on the road whilst disqualified from driving. Currently the maximum sentence is just two years in prison.
The 'Driving Whilst Disqualified (repeat offenders) Bill' would allow the courts to lock up offenders for up to two years, instead of the current six months.
A review of all driving offences and penalties has also been announced by the Government, which should include repeat offenders.
Rehman has appeared on Radio Kent to discuss the Bills.
In December, Rehman hosted a debate on road safety, and raised the two Bills with the Transport Minister.
In 2014, Rehman won Brake's 'Parliamentarian of the Year: National Campaigner' award for his road safety campaigns.
