Statement from Rehman:
“Last month, during the consultation, I raised residents’ concerns over the proposed closure of the Insolvency Service office in Medway and its merger with the Whitstable office.
“There are serious concerns about the impact this will have on Gillingham and Rainham as well as the wider local area, which could result in the loss of 31 jobs and an important local service.
“I have now received a reply from the Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs, Norman Lamb MP who has said that no decision has yet been taken and that the Government is considering the potential impact of the proposed closure.”
Update 23 July 2012
The Minister, Norman Lamb MP, has now written to me to say that the decision regarding the Insolvency Service office has been deferred until the Autumn. The Government has to consider the Atkins report, which could result in a re-consideration of the proposed closure plan.
