Support our soldiers

Rehman has been working with Support our Soldiers, a charity set up in 2003 to provide support for members of the Armed Forces, to send donated parcels to Afghanistan. Local residents have been packing boxes of supplies for our troops with items including biscuits, sweets, crisps, books and toiletries as well as small cakes, tined fruits and playing cards.  If you are interested in packing a box please get in contact with Rehman’s office.

Rail campaign

Rehman has been fighting for better train services and fairer fares for local commuters in Gillingham and Rainham.He has held meetings at Gillingham and Rainham railway stations so that commuters can have the opportunity to raise issues directly with Southeastern trains.Rehman has also asked questions on rail services in the House of Commons and met with the Transport Secretary to discuss commuters’ concerns.

Bullying in the Health Service

Rehman has previously taken up the case of the former medical director, Mr Gulzar Mufti, who says he was subject to bullying at Medway Maritime Hospital. The annual NHS staff survey has also reported that bullying in Medway is higher than the national average and Rehman has raised this issue in Parliament.

Protect green spaces

Rehman has been part of the long-running campaign to save Capstone Valley from development. He supports the protection of the area as an important green lung in Medway and has fought proposals to build more than 9,000 homes on Capstone Valley.He also opposes developments in Otterham Quay Lane and has raised strong objections to proposals to build 500 homes.

Sports

Rehman is the Football Association's Parliamentary Fellow and was previously Sport England’s Parliamentary Fellow. He has campaigned on increasing participation in sport, especially for young people and the disabled.  Rehman has written an article on how the Olympics legacy could help to tackle obesity and boost health.

Organ donations

Organ donations help to save thousands of lives each year and Rehman has been raising awareness in Parliament of the importance of transplants. He has received the support of the Prime Minister to encourage more people to register as donors.

Honour violence

There have been a number of cases of so-called ‘honour violence’ in the UK, where crimes are committed against people to protect the honour of the family or the community.
